Barber Family Reunion Information Update
March 19, 2015
When: July 31, August 1, August 2 (Friday through Sunday)
Where: Headquarters is Hawthorne Inn in Winston-Salem. Fifteen (15) rooms have been reserved for a special rate from July 31 through August 1. Only 5 rooms are available at the special rate on Sunday, August 2. To receive the special rate you must make the reservation by June 15, 2015. In the event that you do not attend, you must follow the normal procedure for cancellation. Make sure you mention Barber family reunion to get the special rate. Make sure you discuss cost and cancellation policy when you reserve. If you reserve after June 15, you will have to pay the regular price for these rooms.
Room Cost is $109 plus tax for Queen-Queen nonsmoking and $109 plus tax for King. Nonsmoking.
Activities
July 31 (Friday) - Arrive and check in. Hospitality room with light refreshments will be available. Entertainment is open ended. Find entertainment downtown close to Hawthorne Inn. Lots of restaurants. Traditionally, Winston-Salem holds summer jazz festivals on Friday nights with lots of food from independent vendors. This is one of the attractions we anticipate.
August 1 (Saturday)
• In the morning, eat breakfast at your own expense in the hotel or other places that are walking distance from the hotel. Tour of places of interest such as Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina School of the Arts, Old Salem, shopping, other attractions.
• In the afternoon, starting at 1:00 pm we will have a cookout, games, etc. at a local park. Cost is included in fee discussed below.
• Possible visit to Barber homestead on Ferrell Street, local Barbers- Akins homes
• In the evening return to hotel, visit the hospitality room, dinner at your own expense.
August 2 (Sunday)
• In the morning, have breakfast in the hotel at own expense. Attend a worship service downtown or in other part of the city as you choose.
• From 1:00 to 5:00 pm attend banquet. Cost is included in fees listed below. Banquet program is to be worked out.
• Late dinner on your own. Hospitality room open for chatting and debriefing.
You may want to stay over for the 2015 National Black Theatre Festival. This year the festival starts on Monday, August 3. Submissions for performances are coming in from all over the United States, Canada, Japan, China, and Africa. There are only 5 rooms available at the special rate on Sunday evening. Others will cost $159.
Event Fees
Adults: $60 will cover refreshments in the hospitality room on Friday, July 31; Cookout on Saturday, August 1, and Banquet on Sunday August 2.
Young People 12 to 18 years old. $20 will cover refreshments in hospitality room on Friday, July 31, Cookout on Saturday, August 1, and Banquet on Sunday, August 2.
Children under 12 years old:-$15 will cover refreshments in hospitality room on Friday, July 31, cookout on Saturday, August 1, and Banquet on Sunday, August 2.
At least ½ of the fee paid by June 1 and balance by June 30. Preferred full payment by June 1.
